SPECIAL EFFECTS SUPERVISOR
I have been employed since 1980 as
a freelancer in the film industry. I have worked on most of Australia's major film and many overseas
projects in the area of SPECIAL EFFECTS. I was the Special Effects Supervisor on the last two STAR WARS films to be made for which we received an Academy Award
nomination for visual effects (Episode 2). I was working directly with George Lucas of Lucasfilm and Industrial Light
and Magic. I have been supervising films since 1986. I was the chief designer and builder of mechanical special effects (particularly
the helicopter flying rig) on the Matrix for which our team won the Academy Award
(USA Oscar) and BAFTA (British Film &
Television Award) for the year 2000.
I’ve currently completed "Superman
Returns" as the Australian Special Effects Supervisor for the Warner Brothers production, working in conjunction with
Neil Corbould of Neil Corbould Special Effects (UK). In January 2007 we were nominated
for The Visual/ Special Effects Oscar (Academy Award) and Bafta Award as well as the Best Special Effects Award with the Visual
Effects Society (VES Award) of Los Angeles.
In 2003-2004, I was the Australian Special
Effects Supervisor for “Stealth” working in conjunction with John Frazier
of FXPerts, USA.
We performed some of the biggest pyrotechnic scenes ever recorded on film, without negative incident, working closely in conjunction
with stunts. Some of these events were recorded on 14 cameras.
In 2001 and 2002, I worked on Matrix
2 & 3 as Supervisor of design and engineering for the major physical effects on the two films.
In 1999 I was the chief designer of
all the rigs used by Tom Cruise in the film "Mission Impossible 2".
Credits include these and many more,
totalling about 135 feature films, effects for live shows and stage shows, and many commercials for television. My main areas
of special effects centre on:-
(A) SPECIAL
EFFECTS SUPERVISION.
(B) PYROTECHNICS PLANNING AND SUPERVISION.
(C) RIGS DESIGN.
(D) ENGINEERING DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION AS A PACKAGE.
(E) ATMOSPHERICS.
I currently
hold the following licences:
Scuba diver #NAUI 511778 (experienced high
time), aircraft pilot AUF (own aircraft over 200 hours flying time), heavy vehicle driver , unlimited motor cycle , boat driver,
elevated platform ticket, forklift ticket, powderman's explosive, shotfirers permit, licence to manufacture explosives, display
fireworks permit. Magazine licences.
